Short Stories & Novellas
Get your short fiction polished by a managing editor so you have the best chance of getting your stories noticed when you apply to calls for submission.
“I had the pleasure of working with Erika when my short story was selected as part of their debut Journal of Speculative Literature. We developed a beautiful virtual writer-editor relationship and she was the last word in professionalism and elocution. She pointed out the smallest details that helped the manuscript flourish and attract attention. Samannaz Rohanimanesh

Hi, I'm Erika (she/her). I'm co-editor of the HOZ Journal of Speculative Literature and love working on speculative fiction. I would love to help you get more of your work out into the world!
I have a bachelor's degrees in humanities and a master's degree in philosophy, which somehow led me to pursue an editing internship after graduation. I got hired at a small traditional publisher, Breakwater Books in St. John's, and worked as a publishing assistant doing a bit of everything.
I learned all about the editing process from my managing editor. I read all the submissions from the 'slush pile', copyedited and proofread all sorts of books (fiction, nonfiction, and even poetry), and helped with various marketing tasks. After a year, I moved into the freelance world and started my own business, where I could take on whatever I dreamed up (as a multipotentialite, I love being led by my interests!). In 2019, I helped start a small spec fic press with a few creatives and have co-edited four editions now of an anthology of short stories and poetry. I've read A LOT of submissions, and I know how hard it is to choose just a few to include in a publication. I'd love to help you get your story ready for submitting. |
