I've been copyediting and proofreading for over a decade now! I got my start as a publishing intern, then started freelancing for a slew of different clients, and now I'm back to book editing, my happy place! In a previous incarnation of my business, I specialized as an academic copyeditor and transcript proofreader, which gave me invaluable experience honing my skills and figuring out which clients I most wanted to work with. Fiction and nonfiction indie authors are where it's at for me!
Every editor's journey is different. Mine started in 2011, as an editing intern for a small traditional publisher, Breakwater Books, in Newfoundland. After working with the managing editor, I was hired on as a publishing assistant, which gave me invaluable in-house experience in the publishing industry doing a bit of everything: copyediting, proofreading, reading and responding to 'slush' pile submissions, handling permissions, and more. After a year, I decided to go freelance. I founded E.S. Editing Services and never looked back. |
Line/CopyeditingPerfect for indie authors who have finished with developmental and structural edits and want their book as refined as possible at the sentence level. Let me take care of the details so you can feel confident your book is ready for publishing and in the best shape for your readers.

Copyediting
A professional eye on your story is invaluable. Let me take care of the mechanics (grammar, punctuation, spelling, consistency of all kinds) so you can rest assured you'll be publishing a professional, high-quality book readers won't be able to put down.

Proofreading
Proofreading is the final quality-assurance phase of your publishing journey. Once your copyedited manuscript has been formatted, I'll proofread the PDF to catch any remaining glitches or errors before you upload or send to print. Such an important step in the process.

For once, my expectations of an editor were fully realized
“I think it is rare that a writer finds an editor who is perfectly in sync and able to handle the task of turning a rough diamond into a polished gem, yet this is how I felt after working for a month with Erika on my new manuscript. She picks up on those inconsistencies and errors which dog writers and can lead to that unprofessional feel in a new book. Her suggestions are to the point, diplomatically presented, and her feedback is thorough. For once, my expectations of an editor were fully realized.” Eric Colbourne
author of Chronicles of Fair Island |
I can’t wait to work with her for my next novel!
"Working with Erika was so helpful in polishing my novel. I think the edits are marvelous and made the story much sharper and engaging, shoring up my weaknesses. It’s been so nice to see my thoughts translated into something quicker and more crisp. The editorial assessment was so helpful. So many light bulbs went off in my head. The feedback she offered taught me how I can improve my writing, and it’s inspired me to write better already." Luke Atkinson
author of Blood Oath (No Man's Land Book 1) |
Working with Erika was a collaborative and empowering experience
“Erika’s meticulous editing of my manuscript not only corrected grammar errors but also significantly improved its clarity and coherence. Her insightful suggestions guided me toward areas that needed further elaboration, enhancing the overall quality of my book. Working with Erika was a collaborative and empowering experience, as she respected my voice while offering valuable feedback. Her professionalism and dedication ensured that the manuscript evolved into a polished and refined piece of work. I highly recommend Erika to any author looking to elevate their writing and refine their manuscript.” |
